OUR STORY

After 50 years of farming vineyards in the Napa Valley, the Renteria family find themselves as owners of Renteria Brown Ranch, a small 40-acre vineyard in Los Carneros. The cool breezes from San Pablo bay make this site perfect for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir due to the slow, even ripening that allows for a long hang time. This vineyard is bordered by two premium vineyards, HDV Hyde Vineyard & Beaulieu’s #9 vineyard. After many decades of being a cattle ranch run by Nadine Brown, it was first planted in 1992 by Saintsbury with multiple rootstock and clone combinations of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.



OUR WINE

Our Renteria Brown Ranch Pinot Noir is composed of French Dijon Clones 667 and 115 from Block F. The F Block is on a rocky and steep southwest-facing slope for optimal ripening and is also highly concentrated with limestone rocks that contribute an incredible minerality to the wine. This wine offers aromas of spiced plums, dried strawberries and cherry cola. On the palate, this wine offers flavors of wild blueberries, blackberries and bing cherries.

CRAFTING

The fruit was hand-picked early in the morning during the coolest part of the day on September 24th, with 85% of the fruit destemmed upon arrival to the winery. The wine was barrel fermented with 15% stem inclusion in open-top barrels with native yeast and native malolactic methods to best express vineyard character. Hand punch downs were used to best extract color and flavor, then aged for 16 months in 50% New French Oak from Francois Frerres in Burgundy. The finished wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered on February 6th, 2023.
