This wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with a hint of Merlot and Petit Verdot. The Stice Lane fruit from St. Helena contributes jammy, black cherry and currant flavors, while the Merlot from Tambor gives its softness and dark blue color. It has lush and velvety tannins with fresh red fruit flavors of raspberry and strawberry. Oso fruit adds deep red color and thick backbone along with leather and cigar box notes.
Cabernet Sauvignon: Stice Lane, St. Helena
Merlot: Tambor Vineyard, Mt Veeder
Petit Verdot: Oso Vineyard, Aetna Springs
The Stice Vineyard is located in the heart of the Valley in St. Helena, where its content is high in gravelly loam soil within the valley floor. It is very well drained and rich in nutrients. The Tambor Vineyard is South facing and early ripening which gives softness and fleshiness. The vineyard is situated on clay and loam soil at a 400 foot elevation. The Oso Vineyard, 700 foot elevation, has gravely clay loam and it very well drained.
The 2014 vintage endured the continuing drought as well as the South Napa earthquake. Still, the ideal weather—dry and temperate with few heat spikes—made for hastened yet predictable growing events. Harvest was slightly earlier than usual with beautifully ripened fruit ready to pick in early September.
